Since 2005, eMzantsi has provided a platform for local youth to display their artistic talent in the stageshow after the annual Carnival. Since 2009, thanks to the National Lotteries Commission, the intercultural music project has expanded to offer year-round opportunities for performers to improve their skills and get onstage as often as possible, while getting to know each other across communities.
Hundreds of young people from Ocean View, Fish Hoek and Masiphumelele have been involved in weekly workshops, monthly Masterclasses and quarterly live showcases on public holidays. The eMzantsi Talent agency is rewarding them for their commitment and empowering youth of the south peninsula to become professional. Bookings for events can be made below.
In addition, since 2010 eMzantsi has developed their own carnival band, the eMzantsi Bloka – inspired by the sounds of the Brazilian carnival bloco but with it’s own ghoema-samba beat! The eMzantsi Bloka has played at FIFA FanFests for the World Cup, for the Mayor and at the Cape Town Carnival.
