Primary Schools 2010

In 2010, 4 twinned groups of more than 200 Grade 4-6 learners worked together in weekly workshops through terms 3 and 4 post-World Cup. The 2010 programme was designed to be more integrated, with service providers Jungle Theatre (drama), Red Zebra (percussion) and Junkanew (recycled costume-making) working together in all sessions. This more dynamic team presentation enabled a more seamless implementation than last year.

We had 4 groups this year, instead of 5, as schools coordinator Pat Franke was training for her Level 4 teaching certificate every Tuesday. The teachers’ strike in August presented a great challenge this term as several schools missed workshops, but extra sessions were scheduled where possible to help learners catch up.

Group 1: Kommetjie Primary and Ukhanyo Primary: Silver Stars
Group 2: Imhoff Waldorf and Marine Primary: Golden Suns
Group 3: Kleinberg Primary and the LSEN School: Ruby Hearts
Group 4: Simonstown School and Ukhanyo Primary: Little Fish
(Ukhanyo have two groups as they have 60 in one class.)
