The theme of the 2006 eMzantsi Carnival was ‘Dare to Dream’ and the dreams were BIG, encompassing the Noordhoek Farm Village’s scarecrow family pulled by a huge tractor, the super-sized Papillon Butterfly, and Masiphumelele’s giant Red Ribbon hoping for an HIV-free future on World AIDS Day. For the first time, young Carnival Kings and Queens – role-models, not supermodels – were nominated by our communities in a competition supported by the People’s Post.
