Born and raised in a council flat in Ocean View, ‘Van Die Blokke’ are three self-taught musicians who defy stereotypes: they may look like gangsters but they sing like angels. Accompanied by a lone guitar, these young men range effortlessly across a spectrum of styles from an a cappella version of a Diana Ross classic to a cheeky Afrikaans rap. The trio’s harmonies blend seamlessly with each other, as clever lyrics shape their stories of the joy and tragedy of love. VDB went through a gruelling audition process before being chosen to perform at various Fanparks across Cape Town as part of entertainment at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. VDB also mentor an extended youth group called the Junior Ramblers, a brass band that play all kinds of hit songs. The combination is perfect for weddings and functions.
