Jumpstart 2011

In 2011 Janis Merand continued in her role as high school coordinator and worked with eMzantsi staffers Earl Mentor, Khanyiselo Silo and Luke de Villiers to recruit Grade 8-10 learners in Ocean View High, Masiphumelele High and Fish Hoek High respectively. Following promotional assemblies at high schools in May, they designed a 2 day winter holiday programme called Jumpstart which featured workshops in dance, drama and recycled craft, as well as creative games facilitating intercultural interaction, with a focus on the high school theme for ‘eMzantsi Goes BOS’ - Energy.

This took place on July 4-5th at the brand new Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation Youth Centre opposite Masiphumelele High School. eMzantsi is piloting a mutually beneficial partnership with the Youth Centre as it offers a range of excellent health and counselling facilities at its clinic and needs more young people from local communities across the peninsula to be made aware of them.

Please see the short DVD of the July Jumpstart filmed by Lamla Dinga and edited by Deon Bing here.
